33-1 Battle Honours - United Nations Operations - Korea 1950-1953

The following regulations and orders have been approved and are promulgated and issued to the Canadian Army.

33.1 BATTLE HONOURS - UNITED NATIONS OPERATIONS - KOREA 1950-53

1.     Her Majesty the Queen has been graciously pleased to approve the conditions governing the award of battle honours to entitled regiments to commemorate their services during the operations in Korea in 1950-1953.

Qualifying Rules

2.     The general principles and qualifying rules for awards applicable in respect of The Second World War, as outlined in Issue No 508 dated 10 Sep 56 of Part "A" Supplement to Canadian Army Order No 33-1, will apply for awards for Korea, subject to the following modifications:

(a)     not more than two battle honours may be emblazoned. These may be either the theatre honour "Korea", with appropriate year-dates added, and one other, or two named operations;

(b)     in addition to the emblazoned battle honours, units may claim other serials from the Official List in which they took an active and creditable part;

(c)     only one claim will be permitted for one period of fighting; eg, either the battle or its subsidiary engagement may be claimed;

(d)     no special claims will be considered.

Claims

3.     The regiments of the Canadian Army eligible for Korean battle honours are:

Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) (2nd Armoured Regiment)
The Royal Canadian Regiment
Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry
Royal 22e Regiment

4.     Regimental committees will initiate claims for any honours included in the list of operations to which the regiment considers it has an entitlement. Forms on which claims will be made are being dispatched to the commanding officers of the regiments listed above.

5.     Although supporting evidence is not called for when claims are submitted" it will be advisable for regimental committees to keep a record of such evidence in order to avoid reassembly of a committee should reference back become necessary, if there is any doubt in particular cases.

List of Operations

6.     The list of operations hereunder is contained in the Report of the Battles Nomenclature Committee on which all Commonwealth countries concerned were represented. All the battles, actions and engagements in which regiments of the Commonwealth countries, entitled to battle honours, are known to have taken part have been listed under the official classifications as agreed by this committee.
