Where common names but separate year dates created a combined battle honour title authorized as a single name for emblazonment, both have been highlighted.

(predecessor to the 1st Bn, NSH) and The Cape Breton Highlanders (predecessor to the 2nd Bn, NSH)  were mobilized during the Second World War. War of 1812 Honorary Distinction (1st Battalion, The Nova Scotia Highlanders)

War of 1812 Honorary Distinction (non-emblazonable) - In 2012 the Canadian Goverment decided to award the right of perpetuation of War of 1812 Honours to current units of the Canadian Army. The 1st Battalion, The Nova Scotia Highlanders was awarded the non-emblazonable Honorary Distinction Defence of Canada – 1812-1815 – Défense de Canada in perpetuation of the actions of the following War of 1812 units of the pre-Confederation Militia:

• 1st Battalion, County of Sydney Regiment (1812-15)
• 2nd Battalion, County of Sydney Regiment (1812-15)
• 1st Battalion, Cumberland Regiment (1812-15)
• Parrsborough Corps (1812-15)
